The Zamfara State Government has inaugurated a Public Enlightenment and Sensitisation Committee on the Prevention of Cholera, Meningitis and other communicable diseases, to proactively to check disease outbreaks.

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yahaya Kanoma, said at the inauguration of the committee in Gusau, that the committee had been mandated to educate rural communities on the dangers and preventive measures against outbreaks of communicable diseases in the state.

Kanoma said that members of committee, who were drawn from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Information, have been charged to carry out enlightenment campaigns through the media, public centers, traditional and religious leaders.

It would also embark on live road shows in the state capital, Gusau with full media coverage.

He said the committee was also to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), assess their situation and environmental condition with the view to taking necessary actions so as to avert possible danger.

The Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, urged the committee to speed up and execute their mandate, to ensure that the targeted objectives were achieved.

Dosara said members of the committee were nominated based on their track records, believing that they would use their wealth of experience in the prevention of diseases outbreak in the state.

He urged the committee to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them, as their assignment was critical to the performance of the state’s health sector.
