Kano State Government has inaugurated a twenty – two (22) man action committee on the prevention and further outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the committee will be chaired by the state commissioner of Health, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso.
Governor Ganduje said the committee will comprise membership from the Red Cross; Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), security agencies, National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the state ministry of health.
The Governor urged Kano residents to be conscious of their environment and ensure its cleanliness.
In his response, Chairman of the committee, Dr. Kabiru Getso said an emergency centre has been established at Yargaya in Dawakin Kudu Local Government for the detection of Lassa fever.
Health Reporters reports that an isolation centre and a hospital were also established at Yargaya for the cure of the deadly diseases.
