Bauchi state Government says it will soon set up an isolation centre for the treatment and management of Lassa fever in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Director Press Affairs Government House Bauchi, Danbaba Umar who said the centre is to be situated in the state infectious disease hospital in Bayara in Bauchi state.

It said, the measure was taken by the state government to curtail the spread of the disease in the state which follows the recent enlistment of the state among the six new states to benefit from Lassa fever and other viral hemorrhage fever isolation centre.

The statement further stated that health care providers have been retrained to quickly recognise and deal with suspected cases accordingly by the state Ministry of Health.

The statement further appealed to the general public not to panic but be cautious and report any case of fever that has not responded to the conventional anti-malaria, anti- pyretic, usual typhoid treatment to the nearest health facilities.

It therefore advised people who have come into contact with confirmed cases to submit themselves to the state’s rapid response team for proper screening.
