The Niger State Government has recruited 70 nurses and 40 doctors to increase manpower in the state health sector.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mustapha Jibril, who disclosed this during the launch of the Family Health Plus (FH+) project and the inauguration of the governor’s wife, Dr. Amina Sani Bello, as the ambassador of family planning and standard-bearer of FH+ project in the state, said 10 of the doctors specialists.
He said the recruitment of the workers was aimed at revitalising the health sector and improving the health status and quality of life of the people.
Dr. Jibril said the state has also begun a clinical death review audit to query medical death cases and ensure that no death occurs due to negligence on the part of any health worker.
He said no death would go unaccounted for, adding that the state government has started a clinical and death review audit to query death cases.
According to him, punitive measures will be taken in the case of high negligence on the part of any health worker.
He said: “Some clinical workers are facing the disciplinary committee due to their negligence. We are working to revitalise the private hospital board because most of these private hospitals keep people in their hospitals and refer them to general hospitals when they are about to die. We are working to ensure that no one dies out of negligence.”
The commissioner said the contraceptive prevalence of women in the state is the lowest in the North Central with seven per cent, noting that 11 per cent of the populace die from unwanted pregnancy and fake abortion, which is due to lack of child spacing that enables the women to recover from the challenges of previous child birth.
