Gombe to immunize 600, 000 children against polio

Gombe state Primary Health Care Development Agency is targeting to immunize 654, 047 children against poliomyelitis virus in the second round of polio immunization in six local government areas of the state, following detection of circulated polio virus in Borno state.

The Deputy Director of the Agency, Alhaji Musa Ibrahim Kuna, who disclosed this to newsmen in Gombe, said over 647, 000 children were immunized in the first round conducted between May 9 and 12 2016.

He added that the agency found it necessary to embark on the exercise to ensure that the six local government areas which share a boundary with Borno state.

The LGAs where the exercise will be conducted are; Nafada, Funakaye, Balanga, Akko, Gombe and Yamaltu/Deba.

Alhaji Kuna appreciated the state government for supporting the agency with logistics to ensure the success of the exercise, adding the agency has about 786 vaccine for the three-day exercise.

Also speaking, World Health Organization (WHO) Coordinator in the state, Mr. Dauda Madubu, appeal to the public as matter of urgency to immunize their children to avoid been affected with the virus.

He said the exercise which is expected to last for five days will start on June 11 and end June 16.
