The Federal Government has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve on the implementation process of UN Population Fund UNFPA-assisted programmes to enhance sustainable national development.
Director, International Co-operation Department, Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning (MBNP), Mr. Samuel Eloho, made the call at the closing of a two-day meeting in Abuja.
Health Reporters gathered that the meeting was for the National Task Force Partners in Population and Development (PPD) on South-South Cooperation, Ministry of Budget and National Planning, UN Population
Fund (UNFPA) and Implementing Partners.
Mr. Eloho, represented by Mrs. Margaret Dibigho, Assistant Chief Planning Officer in the Department of International Cooperation, appreciated the UNFPA for building the capacity of MDAs on population, gender, reproductive health and development.
The director solicited for more cooperation from the MDAs to move the sector forward, noting that such effort will enhance national development.
Also speaking, UNFPA Programme Analyst on Demography and Statistics, Mr. Dasogot Dashe, appreciated the participants on their contributions to review the activities of population, health and development in their MDAs.
Mr. Dashe, however, urged them to be committed to implementing the UNFPA-assisted programmes in their MDAs to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country.
Newsmen report that no fewer than 14 MDAs attended the meeting. They also report that the meeting discussed the outcome of the Ministerial Strategic Dialogue on South-South Cooperation in Population and Development held in China in March.
Health Reporters gathered that the South-South Cooperation comprises 26-member countries seeking to fast-track their development.
The meeting also discussed the 49th Session of the UN Commission on Population and Development held in New York in April.
