Niger state Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) says it is collaborating with social groups to improve health care delivery in rural communities.
The Executive Director of the agency, Mr Yahaya Na’uzo, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Minna on Tuesday. Na’uzo said the agency was engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth groups, as well as schools at ward levels on better ways to improve health care delivery to people living in rural communities.

He added that the agency had constituted a Ward Health Development Committee to work with the groups to educate the people on how to channel their complaints on health issues to the committee. According to him, the Ward Health Development Committee will represent the agency at ward level for people to lay their complaints concerning their health.
He explained that “we have restructured the primary health care system, especially at ward levels by constituting committee which will work with social groups to let people know that they can channel their problems and complaints to the committee. “The committee will let the people to know the resources that are available for them at the various primary health care centres to access and also know when to make demand of the resources that are not available.
“We believe this various groups operate actively and they are key groups that people listens to and we can liaise with them to provide adequate health care services and reduce the number death occurrence in rural communities. “This collaboration is a source of empowering the community to access health facilities and resources available for use within their domain.”
The director called on other groups to identify with the committee at various ward level for a better health care delivery. He advised the people to take advantage of the health facilities and personnel within their domain to access qualitative health care services.
