The Abba Kabir Yusuf Health Policies Promoters (AKYHPOP) has urged the Kano State Government to prioritize investment in primary healthcare and improve service delivery across the state.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by AKYHPOP leadership to Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Chairman of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf (AKY) 2027 Campaign Blueprint Development Committee.
Led by Chairman Abbas Sa’idu Kiru and Secretary Abdulrashid Ado, the delegation presented a memorandum with proposals to strengthen primary healthcare, expand access to quality services, and reform the state’s overall health system.
The association said its advocacy is focused on promoting public awareness of healthcare policies and programmes, educating citizens on preventive healthcare and healthy living, and encouraging greater community participation in immunisation, maternal and child health, disease prevention and environmental sanitation.
It also pledged to collaborate with healthcare professionals, community leaders, civil society organisations and development partners to support initiatives that would contribute to sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery.
According to the association, it will continue to promote evidence-based discussions and constructive feedback on health policies, while supporting capacity-building initiatives for health workers and community volunteers and encouraging greater participation of women and youths in health promotion activities.
A major highlight of the visit was the conferment of Grand Patron on Dr Magashi by the association in recognition of his contributions to healthcare advocacy and development.
AKYHPOP described the appointment as part of its efforts to build strategic partnerships with individuals and institutions committed to improving the wellbeing of Kano residents.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to serving as a non-partisan advocacy platform for healthcare development, public enlightenment and policies that promote the welfare of the people of Kano State.
On his part, Aminu Magashi Garba expressed delight over the visit and assured them of his committee’s readiness to work with all sectors.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the association to discuss its vision of ensuring that healthcare remains a central component of development planning and public policy in the state.
