CHR advocacy influences Bauchi health sector’s reform – Health Commissioner

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Halima Mukaddas, has commended the Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) and Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFaH) advocacy in the state’s health sector.

Dr. Halima who is PACFaH champion, stated this on Thursday February 23 when she visited the Kano office of CHR.

The commissioner was received by CHR  Project Director, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, Acting Executive Director, Salisu Musa, Health Economist Amina Abubakar and other staffs the office.

She said the visit is to further show her commitment and passion to her role as a PACFaH champion, to support activities of the organization and strengthen the existing relationship.

Dr. Halima further said the efforts of CHR-PACFaH advocacy in the state which has had great impact on how the current government prioritizes health financing as it relates to Child and Family Health. “Your collaboration with CHR in budget advocacy in Bauchi state is today commended by everyone, the evidence of our relentless advocacy
and technical assistance we have shared these years have yield great results.

“We are happy that Bauchi state has allocated 16 per cent of its budget to health sector. And the fact that the state government now prioritizes health, we will continue to work together to ensure that our efforts are strengthened,” Dr. Magashi said.

Earlier, CHR’s Ag. ED, Salisu Musa said Dr. Halima’s commitment as a PACFaH champion, passion to child and family health advocacy is commendable and appreciated, and encouraged her never to relent in her efforts in Bauchi state.

Our correspondent reports that the commissioner had a technical session with CHR staff, where she reviewed the Bauchi state 5 Point Health Agenda (Lafia Garkuwa) annual performance scorecard, which the CHR supported the state to developed.
