Dr Magashi Congratulates Nigerian Cancer Society’s New Excos

The Coordinator of Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has congratulated the newly elected National Officers Council (NOC) of the Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS), urging them to intensify efforts in the fight against cancer in Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message on Wednesday, Dr Magashi described the emergence of the new leadership as timely, coming at a time when the burden of cancer continues to rise across the country.

He commended the NCS for conducting a transparent election in line with its newly passed Constitution, which provides for a single two-year tenure for the NOC covering 2026 to 2028.

Dr Magashi specifically applauded the election of Professor Abidemi Omonisi as President/CEO, Professor Adamu Danladi Bojude as President-Elect, and Dr Oiza Tessy Ahmadu as Secretary-General, alongside other members of the executive.

He expressed confidence that the wealth of experience, expertise, and commitment of the new team will strengthen the NCS in advancing its mission of cancer awareness, prevention, advocacy, treatment support, research, and improved cancer care nationwide.

The AHBN Coordinator called on members, partners, and stakeholders to support the new leadership to achieve its mandate, noting that collective action is critical to reducing cancer prevalence and improving patient outcomes in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Cancer Society has recently announced the inauguration of its newly elected National Officers’ Council (NOC) that will steer the organisation’s work in cancer awareness, prevention, advocacy, treatment support, research, and improved cancer care across Nigeria for the next two years.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary General, Dr Oiza Tessy Ahmadu, the new leadership team will serve a single term of two years, in line with the Society’s newly passed Constitution covering 2026 to 2028.

Prof. Abidemi Omonisi was elected President/CEO, while Prof. Adamu Danladi Bojude emerged as President-Elect. Dr. Oiza Tessy Ahmadu will serve as Secretary-General, with Prof. Ngozi Ugwu as Assistant Secretary General.

Other elected officers include Dr. Adenike Adegoke Elijah as Treasurer, Hadiza Aliyu Manga as Financial Secretary, and Hon. Bashir Mohammed Ranccas as National Publicity Secretary.

In the statement, the NCS expressed confidence in the new team’s leadership, expertise, commitment, and collective vision to strengthen the Society and deepen its impact in the fight against cancer in Nigeria.

“We look forward to the leadership, expertise, commitment, and collective vision of this new team as they work to strengthen the Nigerian Cancer Society and contribute meaningfully to the fight against cancer in Nigeria,” the statement said.

The Society also extended appreciation to members, partners, stakeholders, and friends for their continued support, urging them to rally behind the new leadership to advance its mission.

“We wish the new NOC a successful and impactful tenure and encourage all members, partners, stakeholders, and friends of the Society to join hands in supporting this new chapter of leadership,” Dr. Ahmadu stated.

The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger organization and scaling up efforts to reduce the burden of cancer in Nigeria through awareness, early detection, and improved access to care.
