The Technical Adviser to the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba has at the weekend visited the Bichi Female Rehabilitation Centre in Bichi Local Government Area of the state.
During the visit, Dr Magashi was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi.
The visit followed the destruction caused by the heavy rainstorm that occurred over the week.
Dr Magashi interacted with the staff, female inmates and donated relief materials; blankets, drugs and food items.
He also observed that the heavy rainfall had blown off the roofs of several female rooms and some sections of the perimeter fence had collapsed, posing serious safety and security concerns.
Dr Magashi has commended the leadership of the Kano State SEMA, under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi for the decision to temporarily relocate all inmates from the Bichi Female Rehabilitation Centre to a dedicated and secured space and room at the Bichi Male Rehabilitation Centre.

The decision, according to SEMA, was taken to ensure the safety, security, and welfare of the inmates while repairs and rehabilitation of the damaged facility are carried out.
Dr Magashi, also committed to support the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to convene a strategic stakeholders’ meeting to discuss the development.
He further pledged to review emergency response approaches with a view to mobilise more resources form government, NGOs and development partners to SEMA in managing the 13 rehabilitation centres under its supervision.
Magashi has in the recent past visited six of the 13 SEMA rehabilitation centres where he donated drugs and food items to the inmates and supported a one-day training to all the health workers assigned to the 13 centres.
He also thanked Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf for appointing him to serve as the Technical Adviser to the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
