The Founder of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) and Publisher of Health Reporters Newspaper, Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, has unveiled a new Online Newspaper, ‘Humanitarian News’ to commemorate his 53rd birthday.

The new platform, Humanitarian News, will be a subsidiary of Health Reporters Newspapers.

Established on October 17, 2015, Health Reporters Newspaper was founded 11 years ago with a clear mandate to provide exclusive, accurate and in-depth reporting on health, environment, education and socio-economic development.

However, the Humanitarian News will be dedicated to reporting humanitarian issues, philanthropy, and development interventions, with special focus on vulnerable populations, youth empowerment and community development.

Announcing the new newspaper, Dr Magashi said the initiative was born out of his desire to give more visibility to humanitarian activities that are often under-reported, and to inspire more Nigerians to engage in acts of service.

“As I mark my 53rd birthday, today October 17, 2026, I wanted to give back in a way that will not be just a celebration. Because the humanitarian space is filled with impactful stories of hope, resilience and compassion that deserve to be told. The platform will amplify those voices,” he said.

He noted that the newspaper will also spotlight the activities of the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation (AMGF) and other non-governmental organisations working to support orphans, youths, women and other vulnerable groups across Kano State and Nigeria at large.

According to him, the online newspaper will operate with the same principles of accuracy, accountability and public interest that define the success of the Health Reporters Newspaper, but with a broader lens on social justice and humanitarian reporting.

Dr Magashi expressed gratitude to colleagues, family and partners for their support over the years and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing health accountability, media development and humanitarian service in Nigeria and across Africa.

The unveiling was part of activities marking his 53rd birthday celebration, which attracted goodwill messages from stakeholders in the health, media and development sectors.
