In a bid to strengthen immunization governance in Nigeria, the European Union (EU) has embarked on stakeholders training on how to utilize funds given for immunization.
Declaring the two-day training programme open for the North-West zone in Kano, the EU Team Leader, Dr. Goli Lamiri said the training was to ensure that the states comply with the requirement of the EU in requesting for funds, disbursing and retiring so that their projects do not stop.
He stated that EU would not take any mistake in applying its funds, “If there is misapplication of funds or some issues, unless it is resolved, funding will not continue and this is no matter how long it will take and you know we are already two years into the five year project.”
Dr. Lamiri said their expectation was that at the end of the training the policy makers gathered would be well acquainted with the EU guidelines of accessing its funds so that their states would benefit.
Kano state Hospital Management Board Executive Secretary, Dr. Muhammad Nasir Mahmud commended the EU for the support in terms of cold-rooms renovations and technical assistance and assured strict compliance with the EU guidelines.
