A former Governor of Bauchi State, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, has congratulated the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi State Branch for successful conduct of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and conduct of election that produced new State Officers Committee.
MA Abubakar, is the Bauchi State Governorship Candidate under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) for the 2027 General Elections.
In a statement issued at the Sunday, the gubernatorial hopeful specially congratulated the following officers for winning various offices for the 2026-2028 State Officers Committee. Dr. Kabir Abdullahi as Chairman, Dr. Bello Ibrahim as Vice Chairman, Dr. Nur Gazali as Secretary, Dr. Gabi Umar as Assistant Secretary, Dr. Suleiman Aminu Tukur as Financial Secretary, Dr. Ya’u Julde as Treasurer and Dr. Auwal Kwankiyel as Public Relation Officer.
He urged the newly elected executive to be steadfast in the discharge of their duties, commitment to ethics and professionalism as well as focus on medical doctors and other relevant health workers’ welfare and commitment to duty and improving the poor health indices of Bauchi State as well as overall quality of healthcare service delivery. He also called on them to build on past achievements for the benefit of Bauchi citizens.
MA Abubakar, recalled during his administration (2015-2019), several supports the NMA received, noting that an 18-seater bus donated to the association remains in active use, Certificate of Occupancy for land earmarked for an NMA secretariat secured and salaries for medical officers were upwardly revised under the CONMESS salary structure.
He also reiterated his commitment and desire to massive infrastructural development in the health sector through the declaration of emergency on massive renovation of secondary and primary healthcare facilities, provision of emergency ambulances, investing in Solar energy to power our accident and emergency units as well as maternity and paediatric sections.
“Also to improve recruitment and retention of medical doctors and other relevant healthcare workers through provision of modest accommodation, increased hazard and rural posting allowances, ensuring all health workers are covered with medical insurance.
“As well as strengthening collaboration between Bauchi State and federal health tertiary institutions to support referrals, augment health workforce and improve quality of care as well as unlocking external funding by proactively engage national and international development partners to mobilise additional funding and technical interventions that support human capital development and address poor health indices in the state,” part of the read.
It added that MA Abubakar believes if the measures are implemented in partnership with the NMA, other health professional bodies, health workers and relevant stakeholders, it would accelerate progress toward accessible, resilient, and high‑quality healthcare across Bauchi State.
