Gombe gets N450m from Gates Foundation to boost health services

The Gombe State Government said it has accessed N450 million from the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation to improve healthcare services in the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kennedy Ishaya, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Gombe.

Dr. Ishaya said the state government intended to use the money on some key areas which includes; Comprehensive Health Care for pregnant women from conception to delivery.

“The money will be used to strengthen the health facilities, comprehensive health care for children under the age of five and capacity building for health personnel. We have already received a symbolic cheque and opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The commissioner added that the administration of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, was so passionate about the health of pregnant women and children under the age of five.

He said the state government has budgeted N19.5 million quarterly to finance free medical care for pregnant women and under-five children, adding that the governor Dankwambo has increased the amount to N25 million quarterly.
