The Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) is providing Laboratory support to other West African countries to promote research in the region.

The IHVN Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Patrick Dakum, said this at the ground breaking ceremony for the building of the International Research Center of Excellence (IRCE) on Wednesday in Abuja.

Dr. Dakum said that the institute’s bio-tech engineers have established a team in some West African Countries to help them in their bio-sceptic cabinet.

”We have a bank where samples are collected and kept for future reference and for research. He said that researchers in Nigeria sent samples outside the country for results, but with the completion of the IRCE, samples can be collected and tested here in the country.

”We will provide structures that will reduce to its barest minimum researchers sending samples abroad for testing. The IRCE will promote research in West Africa not only in Nigeria,” he said.

Chairman Board of Directors IHVN, Professor Umaru Shehu expressed satisfaction at IRCE project, noting that so much effort was put together by so many people so far to realise this vision.

Professor Shehu who appreciated the efforts of donors and partners promised that the first part of the building will be completed in the next 16 month.

The Chief Operating Officer, IHVN, Charles Mensah said that adequate funds have been raised for the first part of the IRCE centre.
