Dutse, Dec. 23, 2014; The Jigawa Government on Tuesday said it had vaccinated 3, 438, 590 cattle against diseases in the past seven and half years of Gov. Sule Lamido. The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Rabiu Isa, disclosed this at the 2014 flag-off of vaccination of animals in Birninkudu. Isa said that from 2007 to date, the state government immunised 1, 611, 197 sheep and goats, while 53, 450 dogs were also vaccinated against rabies.
He said that due to routine vaccination, the devastating diseases that often affected animals in the state had declined significantly. According to him, the government has included poultry in the programme to prevent Newcastle disease.
Isa said that the current government often purchased assorted veterinary drugs for farmers at subsidised prices and modern surgical equipment for nine veterinary clinics across the state.He said that Lamido’s administration installed 50 wind mills to supply water to animals in 50 grazing reserves.
In his speech, Lamido said that his administration had committed a lot of resources on agriculture as the main stay of the economy. He said that he convened economic and investment summit in the state in 2013 because of his commitment and efforts in the sector. Lamido said more than 80 per cent of the investors who participated at the summit expressed willingness to invest in agro allied industries in the state.
