Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Muda Dangiwa,
The development was disclosed in a memo issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by George Akume, who said the president has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, effecting changes in key positions within the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to the memo, the Minister of Finance, Mr Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dangiwa, are to exit the cabinet as part of the restructuring.
Mr Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been elevated to assume the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
In the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State pending further confirmation.
The directive mandates that all handover processes be completed on or before April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes are intended to strengthen cohesion and synergy within the administration, while enhancing the delivery of economic policies under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours.
He also assured members of the cabinet that efforts to reinvigorate governance would be sustained.
