The United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with government of Canada has renovated and equipped two Primary Healthcare facilities in Miri, Bauchi and Polchi in Dass local government area of Bauchi state.
The International donor’s intervention was aimed at easing and bringing health care services accessible to the people of those rural areas and their neighboring communities.
Some of the new facilities provided include; 10KVA generators, Solar power for supply of water and light to the facilities, beds, overhead water storage tanks, laboratory test kits among others and a new bus which serves as ambulance for conveying patients with complicated cases referred to secondary hospital.
The Village heads of the two areas, thanked UNICEF, Canadian Government and the state government for coming to their aid by providing them with quality health care services.
The residents of the community expressed their satisfaction with the newly improved services in which they are actively involved in the maintenance of the facilities as well as spirit of ownership.
The chairman, Ward Development Committee (WDC) Polchi, Garba Ibrahim told our correspondent the 26 beds capacity facility intervention has better lives of people in the communities.
He added that from January to May, the number of women who attended ante-natal in the facility has greatly increase to 776 adding that they record 5 to 7, more than the number of deliveries in the facility.
Ibrahim explained that WDC has commenced local drugs revolving fund N75, 000 contributed through community voluntary contribution which they used in running the facility pharmaceutical store to save lives of expected mothers and newborn during and after delivery.
He appealed to the state government to absorb the voluntary health workers helping in the facilities as well as deploy more health workers to the facility as the number of out-patients and pregnant women keep increasing daily.
