Yobe establishes medical college

Yobe state Governor Ibrahim Gaidam says the newly established Medical College, renovation and expansion of health institutions will curb medical tourism outside the state.

Governor Gaidam stated this while inspecting work at the Medical College of the Yobe State University, Damaturu.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being executed at the college, saying “this would enhance accessible and affordable healthcare delivery to the people.

“This project is very dear to me and we will ensure completion of the construction work in the next four weeks. Already we are considering release of funds for procurement of furniture and equipping of the structures,” he said.

According to him, the college will train adequate manpower to deliver healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people.

Similarly, Governor Gaidam inspected the newly rehabilitated structures and equipment provided at the Damaturu Specialist Hospital.

He assured that government would continue to upgrade health facilities in the state to improve healthcare delivery.

Newsmen report that the general hospitals in Potiskum, Geidam and Gashua are undergoing rehabilitation and expansion to meet the healthcare needs in the respective environments.

Meanwhile, construction of township roads at the commissioners’ quarters, presidential lodge and the state university have reached advanced stages of completion.

Gaidam noted that work on the presidential lodge and other VIP lodges were nearing completion to prepare the state to receive important personalities, including the President, in a more secured and comfortable environment.
